This volleyball tournament is dedicated to Matt Hartner, a person who loved the sport of volleyball and had a tremendous impact on the growth of this tournament. His passion for volleyball started when he was just 9 years old. He grew up helping the Gresham High School program and the former Nike NW Juniors Volleyball Club (now of Adidas).
Matt joined the Oregon program in 2002 as an undergraduate manager. He continued supporting and working with the team throughout his four years as a UO student, including serving as an undergraduate assistant coach during his final year. While Matt was always a constant with Oregon volleyball, he officially rejoined the staff for the 2009 season as a volunteer assistant after coaching the Mt. Hood Community College volleyball team. The following year, he became an assistant coach at Gresham High School while continuing to grow Oregon’s annual MLK weekend tournament.
Matt was a staple of the Oregon volleyball program for more than a decade. We cherish his contributions, involvement, and the memories.
